The lodge is 300m off the main route to Curio Bay on the Catlins
Coastal Heritage Trail and is private and secluded. It has waterfront
access to the harbour and is 100m from the George Aitken walking track –
a 10 minute native bush walk that winds around the edge of the Waikawa
estuary.
Waikava Harbour View lodge is modern, with central heating throughout
(including heated towel rails) new furnishings, and a fully equipped
kitchen including: dishwasher, microwave, large fridge/freezer, stove
and water filter. The open-plan kitchen dining room and lounge is
comfortable and roomy, and there is available Wireless Internet (high
speed Broadband Satellite), Sky TV, DVD and selection of DVD’s.
There
are two bathrooms: queen ensuite and main bathroom and separate laundry
facilities. The lodge offers four bedrooms - queen ensuite, queen and
single sofa-bed, 2 twin (single-bed) bedrooms, double sofa-bed in the
lounge and portable cot. From the large deck there is a panoramic view
of the harbour, with outside seating and BBQ.
The South Catlins area has spectacular scenery and many natural wonders:
Curio Bay – petrified forest, Cathedral Caves, McLean Falls –
magnificent waterfall, Waipapa Point – historic lighthouse, Waipohatu –
native bush walks through the Catlins Rainforest. The wildlife is
extraordinary: the rare yellow- eyed penguin, Hectors dolphins, sea
lions, seals and native birds.
Discover the colorful history of the Catlins in the Waikawa and Owaka
museums, and visit the quaint St Mary’s Anglican Church in Waikawa or
walk part of the Old Coach Road from the Waikawa Wharf (low tide access
